Dolly Parton offers to adopt abandoned Glastonbury dog named in her honour

The country singer will take the animal “home to America” if no one claims her

American country music star Dolly Parton performs on the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm in Somerset, during the Glastonbury Festival

Dolly Parton has promised to adopt an abandoned dog left behind at Glastonbury.

The white lurcher was named after the musician, following her debut performance at the festival last week. The dog is currently being cared for by Happy Landings animal shelter, after being found in one of the 5,000 discarded tents last week.

Parton, who is “honoured and flattered” that the dog has been named after her, says that she’ll give the animal a home if no one comes to claim her.

“I had my manager call the Happy Landings animal shelter to make sure the dog is being treated and cared for properly,” she said.

“At this time, nobody has claimed the dog and the dog is in great hands at the shelter. I will take her home to America if nobody claims her within a reasonable amount of time.”

Happy Landings described the dog as a “sweet-natured older lady”, who had arrived with a serious ear infection.

Dolly the dog isn’t the only animal to have been given the same name as the country singer – Dolly the sheep, the world’s first cloned mammal, was also named after the musician.

Doctors revealed that the animal was copied from a mammary gland cell and said they could not think of more impressive “glands” than Parton’s.
