Shark Week 2014: Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson pays tribute to Paul Walker

The actor shares a clip of a video clip celebrating the life of his friend and colleague

Dwayne Johnson has paid tribute to Paul Walker in a video clip that will air as part of Shark Week (scroll down to watch the film).

The late actor – who died in November last year – was a board member for the Billfish Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to conserving and enhancing billfish populations around the world. He studied marine biology before moving into acting.

Johnson, also known as The Rock, will air as part of the Discovery channel’s week-long programme, which begun yesterday (10 August). The actor shared a preview clip on Instagram over the weekend.

“[I] Was moved to shoot this very special intro to one of Paul Walker's final missions for shark and marine conservation,” Johnson wrote on Instagram. “ #DiscoveryChannel #SharkWeek #ProtectingThatWhichILove #MissYouBrotherPaul.”

“Paul Walker was not only an incredible actor, dear friend, loving and devoted father,” he said in the clip, ”but he was also a champion for shark and marine life conservation whose efforts inspired so many."

Walker died in a fatal car accident on 30 November 2013. He was the passenger in Roger Rodas’ Porsche Carrera GT when the vehicle crashed into trees and a pole and burst into flames. The 40-year-old actor is survived by his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.

Johnson was driving with his girlfriend when he heard the tragic news.

“I was driving with Lauren when she immediately turned very quiet and was looking at me, studying, wondering if I knew,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in June.

“I pulled over and looked at my messages and had a moment where I just caught my breath. We said a prayer right then to give his daughter strength — because we had talked about our daughters.

“That's what we would talk about. Both of us were divorced, and we talked about the power of being a dad and the strong connection of a dad and his girl. Then once we got home, we started bawling.”
