Fox News host Jesse Watters identifies ‘Beyonce Voters’: 'Single ladies depend on government not their husbands'

Watters defines an alleged new group of voters – and fast receives backlash – as he responds to Hillary Clinton's Hobby Lobby comments

Beyoncé has coined a new group of the US electorate, according to Fox News host Jesse Watters, who has since been criticised in the media for his arguably sexist comments.

‘The Beyoncé Voters’ allegedly make up 25 per cent of the electoral public and, Watters says, Hillary Clinton will need to win them over if she does eventually run for office – not that she’s confirmed doing so.

How to define a Beyoncé voter? Watters makes the obvious leap to 'Single Ladies', who, he claims, need the government far more than their married counterparts.

“Hillary Clinton needs the single ladies vote. I call them ‘The Beyoncé Voters’ — the single ladies,” said Watters on Fox News’s show, Outnumbered.

“Obama won single ladies by 76 per cent last time, and made up about a quarter of the electorate.

“They depend on government because they’re not depending on their husbands. They need contraception, health care, and they love to talk about equal pay.”

Watters was reacting to Clinton’s response to the Hobby Lobby ruling, which states that companies can now claim religious exemption and deny employees birth control. The politician had described the decision as “deeply disturbing”.

“It’s like if someone said if my boss is not buying me a gun, he’s denying me my Second Amendment rights,” said Watters of Clinton’s comments.

“It doesn’t make sense. Having access to contraception is not in the Constitution, she’s dead wrong about that.”

Beyoncé is a self-proclaimed Democrat and has shown her support for Barack Obama on numerous occasions. She’s attended several fundraisers for the President’s electoral campaign along with husband Jay Z; has shown her appreciation for Michelle Obama on Twitter; and also sang at Obama’s 2013 inauguration ceremony – although she received criticism for lip-syncing.
