Gwyneth Paltrow may be a successful actress, businesswoman and mother but she wants to people know that those titles don't have to mean she's out of touch with her sexuality.

Challenging the societal view that sex goes out the window with older women and mothers, the 43-year-old ridiculed those that wouldn't consider her a sexual person, due to her status as a mother or intelligent businesswoman.

The Goop creator stressed that she is not ashamed of her sexuality and neither should other women be.

“We have this idea that you can’t be a mother and a businesswoman and like to have sex!” she told SELF magazine. “How is an intelligent woman a sexual being? It’s really hard to integrate those things. Like, ‘Gwyneth has sex? Really?’ It doesn’t seem to go together.

“But I think it’s important, as mothers and as women contributing to society in whatever way we each are, that our true sexuality doesn’t get lost or put aside.”

Paltrow also discussed the joys of being in her 40s, saying there are benefits to reaching an age where you can still have fun but are more self-aware than when you were younger.

“You can still find yourself at a party at 3am, but you also know enough about who you are and how that informs the choices you make. It’s like, I’m good! I’m not going to strive to be anyone else or please anybody else.”

Paltrow, 43, who has two children with ex-husband Chris Martin, has been at the helm of Goop since 2008. Famed and sometimes mocked for its alternative "aspirational" lifestyle and wellness advice including herbal vagina steaming and a guide on how to yawn properly, it’s emerged as a long-running, successful brand eight years after it was launched as a start-up in the Sliding Doors actresses’ home.
