Tenacious D have confirmed that Jack Black is alive and the past announcements the singer was dead were a 'prank'.

A series of tweets appeared on Tenacious D's official Twitter account this morning saying one part of the band's duo had died.

“I'm sad to officially annouce the death of Jack Black at the age of 46, rest in peace brother (sic),“ the band claimed.

The band have now confirmed that tweets were a prank.

"Calm down guys! It's just a prank bro, look there's the camera...," the band wrote on Twitter.

News of Black's death spread through the internet earlier in the week and it was quickly discovered to be a hoax.

A woman who appears to be acquainted with the band, Misha, denied the news on Twitter and claimed Tenacious D's account was hacked. She claimed Tenacious D were currently on a plane from Germany to LA and played at a festival last night.

Another user posted a photo of Black on Diplo's Snapchat.

Black has been the victim of celebrity death hoaxes on a number of occasions.

A representative for Jack did not immediately respond to request for comment.
