Bay area rapper The Jacka has been shot dead, aged 37.
The musician, real name Dominic Newton, was killed in in East Oakland Monday night, CBS reports.
Witnesses in the area told police they heard a number of shots fired on MacArthur Boulevard by 94th Avenue at around 8.15pm.
Police are yet to identify any suspects.
Raekwon was one of the first to pay tribute to the rap veteran:
Originally hailing from Pittsburg, The Jacka started his career in hip-hop as a member of Mob Figaz, before going solo in 2001.
He released his collaborative album Highway Robbery with Philadelphi-based rapper Freeway last year.
According to Fox news, the shooting is the 11th murder in the city in 2015. It has a population of just 400,000.
