Jennifer Lopez has received criticism after it emerged her latest single was produced by Dr Luke.

Lopez’s song, "Ain’t Your Mama", is produced by Dr Luke, real name Luke Gottwald and co-written by Meghan Trainor. The song is largely about female empowerment and includes lyrics like “I ain’t gonna be cooking all day, I ain’t your mama. I ain’t gonna do your laundry, I ain’t your Mama”.

A number of counterclaims launched by the singer Kesha against Gottwald were dismissed by a New York judge this week. They included allegations of sexual assault and emotional bullying. Gottwald denies all of the claims made against him.

Lopez, who performed the song on the final ever show of American Idol in the US this week, has received backlash on social media for her collaboration.

According to a New York Supreme Court judgement released this week, Gottwald and his companies commenced a breach of contract action against Kesha in 2014 in New York. The judgement states “immediately thereafter” Kesha brought an action in California alleging “sexual assault, sexual harassment and gender violence.” She made the same claims in response to the New York case.

Kesha has accused Gottwald of drugging and raping her a decade ago and emotionally abusing her. The producer denies the claims and has said they are part of a “vicious smear campaign to ruin his reputation for financial gain”.

After a judge denied Kesha an injunction from her recording contract with Gottwald and his companies in February the hashtag #FreeKesha begun to trend on social media and several high profile entertainers including Adele, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga publicly pledged to support the singer.

The Independent has contacted representatives for Lopez and Gottwald.
