The family of reality television star Josh Duggar have said he will enter rehab following revelations the married father-of-four apparently subscribed to the hacked infidelity website Ashley Madison.

It remains unclear what kind of rehab Mr Duggar, a member of the US reality show following the lives of the ultra-conservative Christian Duggar family, will enter.

"Yesterday Josh checked himself into a long-term treatment centre," the family said in a statement on Wednesday. "For him it will be a long journey toward wholeness and recovery. We pray that in this he comes to complete repentance and sincere change.”

The 27-year-old was forced to apologise only last week after he was named when Ashley Madison was hacked, revealing the details of an alleged 32 million users.

"I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife," Mr Duggar said 20 August.

Mr Duggar, part of the TLC show ‘19 Kids and Counting’, also apologised in May after reports emerged alleging he had molested girls, including his sisters, as a teenager.

The family show, built on the premise of their strict religious beliefs – including no sex before marriage, was cancelled in May of this year.
