Katie Hopkins allegedly threatened by Anonymous: Police launch investigation into malicious message

The outspoken TV personality was warned to ‘apologise’ if she wanted to 'feel safe' at home

Police have launched an investigation into allegations Katie Hopkins was threatened by the Anonymous hacking group in a video message.

The controversial columnist received a malicious message last month demanding that she apologise on her Twitter account to those she “caused pain” if she wanted to feel “safe” in her home, according to The Mirror.

“If you do not complete the task addressed to you your personal details will spread like a disease through the deepest and darkest corners of cyber space,” the message reportedly said.

“This is your only chance to redeem yourself and you will comply, we will be watching you.”

The vigilante group often issues threatening messages against organisations online and threatened to release a list of Twitter accounts affiliated with Isis in March.

Hopkins' controversial views on migration, class, obesity and benefits (to name but a few) have made her a divisive public figure.

She has previously spoken of being so terrified for her safety that she installed a panic button in her Essex home. “Our house is rigged up to the local police station – that’s just my life I suppose,” she told the Daily Star in April, adding that her children are “somewhat isolated” from the dangers she may face as “they don’t have iPads and they don’t have phones”.

A spokesperson for Westminster Police said: “Police are investigating an allegation of malicious communications against a 40-year-old woman reported on Tuesday, 30 June."

The force said no arrests have been made and inquiries continue.
