Adele will be honoured with an MBE on Thursday (19 December).

The singer will be travelling to Buckingham Palace to receive the title of Miss Adele Adkins MBE after being named among those appearing on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to the music industry.

PJ Harvey, broadcaster Aled Jones and the author Joan Harris will also receive the ‘Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’ title in 2013.

While the highest honour she’s received in her 25 years, Adele’s year has been laden with awards and acceptance speeches.

In February, she won an Oscar for Best Original Song for James Bond movie theme tune, “Skyfall”.

She also collected her ninth Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Set Fire To The Rain”.

When her sophomore album 21 was released in 2011, it topped the charts in 30 different countries and clung onto the number one spot in the UK Album Charts for over 23 weeks.

Sales of over 28 million copies worldwide have seen Adele’s 16-times platinum record named the best-selling album on Amazon of all time, too.

Adele’s first album, 19, is also on the top ten best-sellers list at number eight. The singer is the only artist to feature in the list twice.
