Nick Gordon, former boyfriend of Bobbi Kristina Brown, has been hit with a $10 million lawsuit over allegations he severely beat her.

He is also accused of trying to take control of the substantial fortune the 22-year-old inherited from her mother, the late Whitney Houston.

Gordon and a friend were the ones who found Brown face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub at her Georgia home in January.

But a new lawsuit, reportedly filed on Wednesday, claims Brown suffered life-threatening bodily harm at Gordon's hands, noting that when she was found, her mouth was swollen and she had several teeth knocked out.

“Even after Brown's hospitalisation, and while she was in a coma, (Gordon) accessed Brown's bank account and stole in excess of $11,000.” the lawsuit states.

No one has been criminally charged in the case, and Gordon's attorney has refused to comment on the lawsuit.

Gordon was informally adopted by Whitney Houston in 2002 and grew up in the family home, but he began dating Bobbi Kristina shortly after the singer's death. They began referring to one another as husband and wife, although they were never legally married.

Since then, Gordon has been barred from visiting Brown in hospital by the family.

It was announced that Brown would be moving to hospice care as her condition continued to deterioriate. "She is in God's hands now," her family said in a statement.
