It has been called the celebrity wedding of the year, and with guests ranging from Matt Damon to Robert DeNiro, a security squad of 400, and a celebration set in Venice over three days, George Clooney’s wedding to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin will be hard to beat.

Clooney waved to the crowd and photographers as he made his way to the ceremony, in a flotilla of vintage water taxis that carried A-list stars including actors Bill Murray and Emily Blunt, supermodel Cindy Crawford and editor-in-chief of US Vogue, Anna Wintour.

The guests were treated to a stellar evening at a 450-year-old waterside venue for the evening party, while guests are reportedly expected to be carrying on the celebrations into Sunday, with a sit-down lunch planned for the afternoon.

Both Clooney and Alamuddin are understood to have held their stag and hen dos the night before Saturday’s main ceremony, and they are expected to officially sign the marriage register at Venice’s town hall on Monday afternoon.

So, just a small-scale affair then.
