Myleene Klass 'confronted by angry mother' over 'bonkers' birthday requests

Klass was praised for calling out an email from the parents of her daughter's schoolmates, which requested £10 towards a desk and a Kindle

Myleene Klass was reportedly confronted by an angry mother outside her daughter’s school, after the presenter complained about an email asking parents to contribute towards a “class birthday gift”.

The former Hear’Say member shared on social media a group email from a parent, in which she and others were asked to chip in for a Kindle and a desk for her daughter's schoolmates. She called the request "bonkers".

In her sarcastic response to the email, Klass suggested her daughter Ava might like a Unicorn as her birthday gift.

A disgruntled mother reportedly challenged Klass, 36, over the widely praised tweets and Instagram posts today - which have been shared hundreds of times - and asked why she had publicised the messages which were allegedly sent a year ago.

An unnamed parent told the Ham&High website that lots of people had complained following the media attention the emails gained, and accused the Classic FM presenter of betraying confidences.

Another said the former singer had “misunderstood the school's community spirit”, adding that parents were not obliged to pay the £10 suggested in the email.

But parent website Mumsnet tweeted its support, and said: “Hats off to KlassMyleene for laying down the law (we'd like a unicorn too please)”.

By sharing the emails, Klass waded into a debate over the high expectations parents have of each other. Last year, the father of a five-year-old boy criticised a mother who sent him an invoice for failing to give notice that his son wouldn't be attending her child's birthday party.

Derek Nash, whose son Alex was invited to a party just before Christmas at a dry ski slope in Plymouth, Devon, said he did not have contact details for the boy's mother to inform her his son would not be attending.

However the mother said that all details had been on the party invite.
