Vin Diesel’s thoughts were with one man when the clock struck midnight on New Year’s.

The Fast & Furious actor took the opportunity to reminisce over the times he and his late friend Paul Walker, who died in a car crash on 30 November, shared together over the years.

Posting a photo of the pair laughing in the sunshine, the 46-year-old star wrote:

"There was always moments of child-like laughter…

"We had accomplished so much by 2013. P.s. The complexities of Brotherhood, and the painful void...of it's absence."

Diesel has played a significant part in the memorial celebrations for Paul Walker since he passed on. Just two days after his tragic death, he was seen visiting the site of the crash that claimed the lives of Walker and friend Roger Rodas, who had been driving the vehicle.

He also followed Walker’s private funeral by addressing a gathering crowd of fans with the aid of a police car speaker.

He told them: "If my brother were here right now and he saw all of the love you are bringing here.

"If he could see for himself that all of you have shown up to show my brother love… at this hard time his family gets to see all of you show the love that you've shown Paul. It's going to stay with me forever."

Walker, 40, died from a combination of traumatic and thermal injuries after the 2005 Porshe Carrera GT he was travelling in careered into a lamp post. Rodas died on impact.

Walker was finally laid to rest at a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills on 15 December.

The service marked an opportunity for Walker’s closest friends and family to say goodbye to the star.

"A few people got up and gave tributes to Paul," a source told US Weekly. "It was hard for many people to talk, they were in tears and couldn't finish what they were saying."

"It was a really sad day for so many people, and you could tell they just weren't ready to say goodbye. His parents were there, along with his brothers and some other family members. Everyone was hugging each other tight and didn't want to let go."

Ludacris shared images of the Order of Service via his Instagram account. Tyrese Gibson also paid a further tribute to the star, posting the following message:

"Today In a room full of your loved ones I wish today was your wedding instead.... God has a better plan even beyond ALL of our own understandings...... For selfish reasons we all wanted you to stay, another laugh, another take, another talk, another moment..... I guess you can't get all you ask for in life.... But our hearts are FULL from all the moments we DID have, 13 years of laughter and grace, humility and love.....

"Never did I take my access for granted.... Continue praying for his #Family, his daughter #Meadow, you are the WORLDS best friend that's why we're all feeling it... #RIHAW Rest In Heaven Angel Walker[sic]"

The intimate ceremony followed a public memorial the previous weekend. Thousands gathered to lay gifts and take part in a motor procession in Santa Clarita, where Paul and Roger died.
