Prince Andrew appeared wearing a limited edition 18-carat Apple Watch, worth £12,000, that he is thought to have received as a gift.

He is one of a few people in the UK to own the 42mm version encased in gold, which went on sale last month.

The Duke of York tweeted a picture of himself wearing the watch at a meeting of the Commonwealth veterans’ group on Thursday.

Prince Andrew received more than 100 gifts in 2014 during official engagements, including a model surface-to-air missile.

Last night Andrew’s spokesman said: “A list of gifts received will be released in the usual way in early 2016.”

The Apple Watch has been repeatedly referred to as an iWatch despite Apple never announcing such a product. The name rebrand is thought to be part of a move to target fashion markets with the product.
