Rik Mayall’s final TV appearance will be broadcast next month when he appears in an episode of Crackanory, UKTV has confirmed.

The late comic and actor will be seen giving a 15-minute reading of The Weatherman by Tony May when it airs on Dave on 24 September at 10pm.

The channel’s bosses had previously said they would only air the episode after discussing the move with his family and agent, the Radio Times reports.

The Blackadder and The Young Ones actor died on 9 June, aged 56, following an “acute cardiac event” at his home in south-west London after a morning run. A post-mortem proved inconclusive.

Crackanory parodies the long-running BBC series Jackanory, on which actors would read children’s stories or folk tales.

Mayall appeared on the show in the 1980s when he gave a famous rendition of Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine. His animated performance sparked an onslaught of parents complaining to the BBC over his “dangerous and offensive” portrayal of characters.

His reading will be shown alongside a story read by comedian Vic Reeves.
