Women of the Year: Women celebrate a year to remember

Author P D James, anti-racism campaigner Doreen Lawrence and human rights activist Zainab Salbi celebrated together as they were named among winners of the Women of the Year awards.

Ms Lawrence, the mother of the murdered teenager Stephen, was given a special award for her tireless efforts over 18 years to bring the her son's killers to justice. Ms James was presented with the lifetime achievement statuette, while Ms Salbi, an Iraqi-American activist, was recognised for her Women for Women International organisation.

Female members of Britain's Olympic and Paralympic teams were made the Team of the Year, and singer Kate Woolveridge was voted Inspirational Woman of the Year for her charity work.
