A rolling stone gathers no moss…

Tracey Emin has spent decades resisting conformity. Now the Turner Prize-winning artist has found her rock and embraced what is perhaps the most traditional social institution there is: marriage.

Who’s the lucky chap?

Her partner isn’t a man – or, indeed, a human.

Well, this doesn’t sound so traditional, after all.

Would you expect anything less from the former enfant terrible of British art? Last summer Emin was joined in holy matrimony with a large ancient stone under an olive tree in her garden in France, she has revealed.

I guess she likes the strong and silent type.

“It just means that at the moment I am not alone,” the blushing bride told The Art Newspaper. “Somewhere on a hill facing the sea, there is a very beautiful ancient stone, and it's not going anywhere. It will be there, waiting for me.”

It must be love.

In a separate interview with Post magazine, Emin opened up about her new squeeze, revealing: “It’s very nice and very impressive and I like it a lot.” She added: "The other thing about the stone is that it could be quite monstrous and scary…I saw it as a protection thing as opposed to a fearful thing.”

Will it be till death they do part?

The honeymoon period could be over sooner than expected, sadly. Emin hinted she was amenable to the idea of an open relationship, and went so far as to imply her spouse is simply a stopgap. “Really I am looking for a soul mate; nothing else will do,” she admitted.

How did her paramour react to this shock revelation?

The rock has yet to comment on Emin’s remarks but, no doubt, will remain stony-faced as ever.
