Roseanne actor John Goodman reveals significant weight loss at premiere of new film Trumbo

The 62-year-old weighed almost 400lbs at his heaviest

John Goodman has revealed a significant weight loss as he appeared on the red carpet at the premiere of his new film, Trumbo.

The 63-year-old, who is best known for his role as father Dan Connor on family sitcom Roseanne, has been vocal about his struggle to lose weight, famously telling David Letterman in 2011 that he was “pushing 400” lbs at his heaviest.

“I'd get off of Roseanne every spring. I'd lose 60 pounds every spring [but] I'd gain it back and then some, every year,” he told the late-night host.

"It’s going to be an ongoing process for the rest of my life.”

Goodman’s role on the show was praised at the time for depicting a family of “ordinary” looking Americans, as larger-figured actors were rare at the time.

He told People that “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on you’re a** and figure out what you’re going to eat next.”

Goodman plays Hollywood producer Frank King in his new film, which tells the story of 1940’s screenwriter Dalton Trumbo (played by Bryan Cranston) who becomes blacklisted and eventually imprisoned for his Communist beliefs.

The film also stars Helen Mirren, Elle Fanning and Louis C.K.
