Susan Boyle hopes to adopt: 'I want to give a youngster what I didn't have'

The Britain’s Got Talent singer has begun proceedings with the social services

Susan Boyle has begun looking into adoption.

The singer, 53, has been in contact with the social services, as part of the process.

Only 3,500 children are adopted each year.

“For the last couple of weeks it has got serious, I hope that they see what I can give,” she told The Mirror.

“I know I’m not married and I’m over 50 but I am waiting to see.”

Although Boyle appreciates that it is a “long process”, she “has never been more keen to do it”.

“I have so much love to give, I have so much to give someone that I want to adopt,” she said.

“I want to adopt a child who doesn’t have much, someone who I can really give something to. It’s a way of giving back for me.”

The singer has been considering adoption for over a year, after having been inspired by a relative foster a young child.

Boyle – who is soon to release her sixth album - is unable to have children of her own.

“I want to give a youngster what I didn’t have, and now I can do that,” she said.

A British child is taken into care every 20 minutes and the total number of 15,000 children put up for adoption in 2013 is double the number of five years ago.

In April, Channel 4 launched a documentary, 15,000 Kids and Counting, which sought to bring greater understanding and awareness to the issue.

The Government’s First4Adoption portal crashed after the second part in the three-programme series as 2,000 prospective adopters came forward to register.
