The digital age will be remembered for the way arguments between famous people, once hinted at and speculated over in gossip magazines, began playing out in the most public of forums.

An example of this new and presumably unwelcome transparency comes this week as fans of Calvin Harris and Katy Perry covered Taylor Swift’s Instagram accounts after Harris accused the singer and her team of “trying to make me look bad”.

Pictures of her on tour and with friends are now flooded by thousands of snake emojis.

The trolling comes after Swift revealed herself as a writer on Harris’ hit with Rihanna, "This Is What You Came For". Her spokesperson confirmed Swift had written under a Swedish alias.

Taylor Swift Twitter spat

Her DJ ex-boyfriend responded angrily in a series of tweets accusing Swift of “hurtful” behaviour. He also referenced Katy, believed to be Perry. There has been long-running speculation of a feud between the pair which was only exacerbated by Swift's "Bad Blood" video.

Swfit, 26, was also the subject of the #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty is over hashtag. But while reports have suggested Swift’s own fans are aggrieved at her, they have led the fightback by attempting to flood her page with heart emojis.

Beyonce’s fans, the self-titled ‘Beyhive', employ similar tactics to someone they believe has wronged or criticised their idol and cover Instagram pages with bees, a treatment experienced by Rachael Roy and a number of women suspected of being the 'Becky' from a Beyonce song.

Swift has not responded to the controversy publicly. A representative for Swift declined to comment.
