England goal scorer Jodie Taylor gave an emotional interview after her team's victory against their Canadian hosts at the 2015 Women's World Cup.

Speaking over the roar of applause from fans at the Vancouver stadium, Taylor, who made her first World Cup start nine weeks after undergoing knee surgery, told the BBC that the victory was "amazing".

"To start a game, come on, score, help us win, make history with England… it’s been my goal for four or five years, it’s just amazing," she said.

She added: "I think we were on top for the first half hour and that won the game for us."

The team reached a World Cup semi-final for the first time in their history, scoring two goals in three minutes.

Taylor scored the opener after taking advantage of a stumble by Canada's Lauren Sesselmann, while Lucy Bronze, with the Lionesses maintaining their hold despite a goal from Christine Sinclair.

England boss Mark Sampson said he was "proud" of his players for defeating their hosts and called them "history makers again, the third ever England team to get to the semi-final".

"They’ve shown a desire I have never seen in an England team before to hang on in there and get us through to the next round," he added.
