Caleb Logan Bratayley, the eldest child in the popular YouTuber family the Bratayleys, died from an undetected heart condition, according to a statement released by his parents.

The sudden death of the 13-year-old in October was met with shock from fans of Bratayley, who along with his sisters and parents were part of the hugely successful vlogging community.

“The doctor confirmed today that Caleb passed away from a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy that went undetected in his yearly checkups,” the family said in an Instagram post.

“Caleb didn’t have any symptoms, so the doctor said there was nothing we could have done differently.”

Last month Caleb’s parents told ABC News that the family has a history of the disease, which causes the heart muscle to become abnormally thick and makes it harder for the heart to pump blood.

In the statement, written by mother Katie, the family said Caleb’s sisters Annie and Hayley, had both had recent check-ups and were in good health.

“The sadness of losing someone you love is unimaginable. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, your kindness and support continues to help our family.”
