Feet stand still in evolution

Human feet have changed surprisingly little since they were used to swing from trees, research has shown.

Scientists studied more than 25,000 steps made by volunteers on a pressure-sensitive treadmill to investigate how evolution has shaped the human foot.

They found unexpected similarities with the feet of chimpanzees and orangutans.
