Furyk revels in calm before the storm

Hodgson confident of Rooney mindset for Scotland match

England manager Roy Hodgson expects Wayne Rooney to be focused on international matters after including the Manchester United striker in his squad for next week’s friendly with Scotland.

The forward, right, has been angling for a move from Old Trafford all summer, but Hodgson believes his mind will be on the job as England look toward the autumn’s World Cup qualifiers.

“I expect him to put problems he may have behind him and give everything for England,” Hodgson said of Rooney, who has made just one friendly appearance since May and has recently suffered hamstring and shoulder injuries. “Wayne’s discipline and the disciplined performances he has given have given me no concern.”

Hodgson has given the Southampton forward Rickie Lambert a first call-up for Wednesday’s fixture, while Wilfried Zaha, of Manchester United, has also been included. MORE
