GB claim double gold in Mexico

Great Britain won two golds and a silver at the UCI Track World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Laura Trott, Ciara Horne, Elinor Barker and Amy Roberts won the women’s team pursuit, beating Canada by almost five seconds in the final after qualifying fastest.

There was also gold for Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner in the men’s team sprint. GB were second quickest going into the final but reversed that by clocking a time of 43.092, ahead of Germany’s 43.106.

Jon Dibben, Steven Burke, Mark Christian and Andy Tennant took silver in the team pursuit, won by Australia.

Enter Hodgson after England’s exit

England’s elimination from the Four Nations yesterday was compounded as footage emerged of the squad’s 25-year-old hooker Josh Hodgson smashing straight through a door at an end-of-tour party in a student flat in Dunedin. England’s team manager, Jon Roberts, issued an apology yesterday and said: “It is being dealt with internally with the person involved and he will be disciplined.”

Murray suffers defeat by Nishikori

Andy Murray made a poor start to the World Tour Finals yesterday with a 6-4, 6-4 defeat by Japan’s Kei Nishikori. Tomorrow, the Scot meets Milos Raonic, who lost to Roger Federer 6-1, 7-6 last night, and has to beat both Raonic and Federer if he is to progress to the semi-finals.

In-form Newcastle see off West Brom

Newcastle’s resurgence continued as they defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at The Hawthorns yesterday. Ayoze Perez and Fabricio Coloccini both scored as Alan Pardew’s side won their fourth straight Premier League game. Everton came from behind to draw 1-1 at Sunderland. Sebastian Larsson’s free-kick gave Gus Poyet’s side the lead before Leighton Baines struck a late penalty.

Lozowski shines in Wasps’ cup victory

The Wasps backs coach, Stephen Jones, praised his fly-half Alex Lozowski after he impressed in their 43-22 LV= Cup win over London Irish at Adams Park yesterday. Lozowski scored 22 points for his side and Jones enthused: “He deserves a lot of credit. It was his second game back after five weeks out with an injury and for him to perform as he did, kick as well as he did and manage the pitch was satisfying.”
