Suarez to demand Arsenal talks after £40m plus £1 bid

Luis Suarez's desperation to leave Liverpool will lead to him today telling manager Brendan Rodgers that he wishes to speak to Arsenal over a move. Arsène Wenger's side made a bid for the Uruguayan striker of £40m and £1, which the player believes meets a clause in his contract obliging Liverpool to sell. He and agent Pere Guardiola are mystified as to why the bid was rejected, particularly as the club failed to reach the Champions League last season.

Suarez played for Liverpool yesterday in a pre-season friendly at Melbourne Victory, setting up the second in a 2-0 win.

One of Arsenal's other targets, forward Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain, passed his medical at Napoli yesterday, along with goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who joins on loan from Liverpool. MORE

Hahn wins gold in world-record time

Sophie Hahn, 16, claimed gold in the T38 100m in a new world-record time at the IPC World Championships in Lyons last night. The Briton ran 13.10 seconds in claiming Great Britain's 10th gold of the games. "I can't believe it," she said. "It's amazing."

Wiggins to make comeback in Poland
