Froome sent for X-ray after crash

Britain’s defending champion Chris Froome was sent for an X-ray after suffering a painful crash during a seemingly straightforward fourth stage of the Tour de France. Sprinter Marcel Kittel, meanwhile, swept up his third Tour stage victory in four days. MORE

‘Hell of The North’ awaits contenders

Today’s stage is the one which the overall favourites fear the most in the entire Tour. The riders cycle 15.4km (9.6 miles) on rural cobbled back roads of northern France. It is usually reserved for a single event: Paris-Roubaix, nicknamed “The Hell of The North”.

Angry Cellino sells striker McCormack

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino claimed he was forced to sell the club’s leading scorer Ross McCormack to Fulham because the Scotland international had “disrespected” him. Fulham signed the Leeds captain for £11m on a four-year deal. MORE

Germany thrash woeful Brazil 7-1 to storm into final

Germany recorded a remarkable 7-1 victory over a woeful Brazil to reach the World Cup final. Joachim Löw’s side tore through the hosts as Miroslav Klose (right) became the all-time record goalscorer in World Cups. Germany went ahead in the 11th minute through Thomas Müller – his fifth goal of these finals and his 10th in World Cups. Klose struck his record-breaking 16th World Cup goal in the 22nd minute before team-mate Toni Kroos struck twice. Sami Khedira added a fifth before the hosts were booed off at half-time. Andre Schürrle scored two after the break, before Oscar struck a consolation for Brazil. MORE

Van Persie a doubt for Netherlands

Robin van Persie is doubtful for Netherlands’ semi-final against Argentina after suffering from stomach problems, which forced him to train apart from the squad. “He had some stomach problems, some intestinal problems, so it is better not to train as it would get worse,” coach Louis van Gaal said. Prandelli amazed to be back so soon

Former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli admitted he did not expect to be back in the game so soon after resigning following the Azzurri’s group-stage exit at the World Cup. He has signed a two-year contract to become the new manager of Galatasaray and said: “I wasn’t even in the mood for signing with a team.”

Benitez: Argentina will miss Di Maria

Rafael Benitez feels Argentina will lament the loss of Angel Di Maria just as much as Brazil are counting the cost of Neymar’s injury. “Everyone has been talking about Neymar in the last three days but Argentina losing Angel Di Maria has consequences which could be just as serious,” writes Benitez.
