These are the countries where Britain's immigrants come from and emigrants go to

Owing to a history of empire, the widespread use of the English language and a strong economy, not only can British citizens be found in all corners of the globe but the country also attracts millions of migrants from around the world too.

These two maps, created by Statista using data from the Pew Research Centre, show where Britain's immigrants come from and where its emigrants go to.

According to the data, in 2013 there were 5.01m British-born migrants living overseas - with Australia, the US, Canada, Spain and New Zealand proving most popular.

In the same year there were 7.82m overseas-born migrants living in Britain - with most coming from India, Poland, Pakistan, Ireland and Germany. In fact, according to Pew and the Herfindahl-Hirschman index, Britain is the most diverse country on the planet.
