The bodies of a husband and wife have been found in the bedroom of their home by police.

Officers from Northamptonshire Police broke into the house of Mick and Mary Cowley last Friday after receiving reports that they had not been seen for around three weeks.

The couple, both aged in their 60s, were found in the bedroom of the house in Kinross Close, Spinney Hill, Northampton.

It is believed Mrs Cowley may have died of a heart attack and a distraught Mr Cowley may then have taken his own life.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: "We are preparing a report for the coroner and there are no suspicious circumstances."

It is thought officers were alerted to concerns about the couple when Mrs Cowley missed a couple of medical appointments.

After not receiving any response at the couple's home, police broke in last Friday.

Neighbours paid tribute to the "lovely couple". One woman, who did not want to be named, said they were very close and nobody in the local area knew much about them.

She told the Northampton Chronicle: "Because of that they were very insular and depended on one another. I suppose Mick felt it was too difficult for him to cope without Mary. It's a real tragedy."
