A teenage boy died in the early hours of this morning after being stabbed last night during a street fight in east London.

The 15-year-old was found seriously wounded in the abdomen on Bethnal Green Road at around 11pm before he was taken to hospital, where he died at 2.12am.

The fight involved a group of teenage boys with some on foot - including the boy who died - and some in a car in Padbury Court, Tower Hamlets, the Met Police said.

The incident continued as the boys made their way over to Gibraltar Walk, where the boy was stabbed in the stomach.

His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem will be carried out to confirm the cause of death.

A murder investigation has been launched and an 18-year-old male was arrested at the scene, taken to a police station in the area for questioning and remains in custody.

Parts of the street were cordoned off as officers and forensic experts searched for evidence relating to the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Jones of the HMCC said: "Anyone who may have witnessed this altercation or have information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact the police as soon as possible."

Anyone with information can call the police non-emergency line on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
