British man accused of murder after 'ordering Norwegian lover to submerge baby in water as he watched over Skype'

Ammaz Qureshi accused of instructing his wife to 'discipline' the child for interrupting the call

A British accountant has gone on trial accused of murder after allegedly ordering a woman to submerge her one-year-old child’s head under water during a conversation on Skype.

Married Ammaz Qureshi is said to have told his lover 28-year-old Yasmin Chaudhry to put her daughter’s head in a bucket full of water to “discipline” the child for interrupting their online conversation by crying, The Mirror has reported.

He is said to have watched live as the one-year-old was held under water twice before she lost consciousness.

Chaudhry, who lives in Oslo, Norway, contacted emergency services and told them the child had fallen in accidentally but the girl died in hospital the next day.

The 35-year-old allegedly had an affair with Chaudhry after being introduced by her brother during a visit to London in February 2010.

She returned to Norway two months later, and the pair remained in contact over Skype.

An Oslo court heard Qureshi watched Chaudhry abuse her child by tying up her arms and legs with rope and forcing her to eat chilli powder via Skype from the UK.

Chaudhry has pleaded guilty to child abuse but has denied murder.

Qureshi, of Pinner, north London, has been in custody in Oslo for more than a year after being extradited to the country.

He also denies murder. His lawyer said: “My client is baffled that he is accused of a crime committed in a country which he had never set foot in.”
