A father has been found dead near a reservoir in London, after the body of his two teenage daughters and their mother were discovered in a nearby home.

Police attended the property in Grove Road, Chadwell Heath, at around 1:10pm on Tuesday, after they were alerted to concerns about the welfare of the residents.

After officers forced their way into the home, they discovered the bodies of the mother, understood to be aged 37, and two daughters, each believed to be 13-years-old.

The father, 45, was missing from the address at the time. He was found hanging in Woodford Reservoir, Walthamstow, north east London, at 8.17am on Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scotland Yard said the last confirmed sighting of the family was on Sunday.

Police said they had visited the house on Monday evening, but there was no response or sign of any disturbance.

The matter has since been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, and will be reviewed by the Met's directorate of professional standards.

Forensic examinations are ongoing, and post-mortem examinations will be carried out today. However, police said the bodies of the females had no signs of visible injuries.

Formal identification has not taken place and next of kin have not been informed.

Detective Superintendent Kenny McDonald, who is overseeing the investigation, said: “At this stage we are awaiting the outcome of the post-mortems to confirm cause of death, which will provide further evidence of what has taken place inside the house at Grove Road.

"However, at this stage in our ongoing investigation we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

"We are making extensive inquiries to trace next of kin, who we believe to be outside of the UK."
