A former security guard who worked at News International (NI) has been charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
Lee Sandell will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court today. The 26-year-old, from Caterham, Surrey, is the sixth person to be charged over events that occurred between 15 and 19 July last year. The period followed The Guardian's allegation that the phone of the murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler was hacked.
The fallout from the story led Rupert Murdoch to close the News of the World. The Crown Prosecution Service has said that those accused, including the former NI chief executive Rebekah Brooks, concealed documents, computers and other electronic devices that affected the Metropolitan Police's hacking investigation.
