Police are hunting intruders who killed a kitten in a microwave oven during a burglary in which nothing was stolen.

The offence at a property in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, is believed to have taken place on the afternoon or evening of Saturday November 26 or the early hours of the following day.

Another burglary is thought to have taken place at a neighbouring property during the same timeframe, but nothing of any value was stolen from either address.

Pc Ben Hood, from the Nuneaton Local Investigation Team, confirmed that the kitten's owner had discovered her pet's body in the microwave.

Appealing for information about the animal's death, the officer said: "This was a cowardly act which will have caused indescribable suffering to a helpless animal.

"It is hard for any rational person to understand how someone could do this and we need to find out who they are."
