London bus crash: 10 passengers in hospital after driver hits tree

Two were taken to hospital as priority

Ten bus passengers were taken to hospital after the driver crashed into a tree in London.

Emergency services were called onto the scene on Station Road in Manor Park, Newham, with London's Air Ambulance and the London Fire Brigade both in attendance.

The incident is being treated as non-suspicious at the moment - no arrests have been made, though enquiries are continuing.

At arrival to the scene, the London Fire Brigade closed down the road with local police officers to enable the air ambulance to land on Capel Road nearby.

The fifteen people on the W19 bus headed to Walthamstow were then treated by the ambulance service at the scene.

Newham Metropolitan Police Service tweeted: "Bus vs tree in Capel Road E7. Luckily no one seriously injured."

Two passengers were taken to hospital as a priority, one for a head injury and one for hip pain.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene including six ambulances, four duty officers, our hazardous area response team, London’s Air Ambulance and our emergency planning team," a London Ambulance Service spokeswoman told the Evening Standard.

"Ten patients were taken to hospital. Five patients were taken to Whipps Cross Hospital and a further five to the Royal London Hospital."

Pictures from the scene show the single-decker bus crumpled against a substantial trunk, with much of its left-hand side crushed or ripped off.
