Woman 'run down by men on mopeds for not responding to their catcalls'

A young woman has spoken of her ordeal after being run down by two men riding mopeds because she ignored their catcalls.

Pagan Lilley Motlagh-Phillips, 19, from Newham in south east London said she was left unconscious on the roadside with internal bruising, The Evening Standard reports.

Ms Motlagh-Phillips, who works for the local council, said she was walking with her 18-year-old brother when the men pulled out of an alleyway and called out to her: "You alright, darling?".

After she ignored them, the men started threatening the siblings and demanding an answer before deliberately driving towards them along the pavement, police said.

Ms Motlagh-Phillips said she was able to push her brother out of the way before she was knocked down. The men then reversed over her unconscious body, she alleges.

She was taken by ambulance to Lakeside Shopping Centre hospital where doctors found she had suffered internal bruising.

Ms Motlagh-Phillips said: "I am traumatised, I can’t sleep without medication and going to work every day is becoming harder and harder. He could have seriously injured me or even worse killed me.

“I’m 5ft 5in and 9 stone, it doesn’t take much force to hurt someone of my build.”

She has criticised the police for not being able to arrest and charge those responsible despite there being "several" witnesses on the scene and CCTV footage.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed a man was arrested a month after the incident but no further action was taken due to lack of evidence.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: "A 21-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 30 June but no further action was taken against him.

"Officers from Havering CID were investigating and CCTV footage was obtained but it was not possible to identify the suspects.

"All possible investigative leads have been explored and the investigation has concluded but should any additional information come to light which will help to identify the suspects this will be reviewed."
