A father of three was deliberately run over and killed after being followed from a club, the Old Bailey heard today.

The occupants of the black Ford Fiesta which killed Garry Frater used the car as a lethal weapon, the jury was told.

Mr Frater, 32, was crushed under the vehicle after it accelerated back over him and deliberately drove over him again before driving off, it was alleged.

Mr Frater died on May 30 last year after the minicab he and friends took from a club in Watford, Hertfordshire, was followed for about 10 miles to Burnt Oak, north London.

Louis Tate, 24, of North Acton, and Jake Lee, 23, of Acton, both west London, deny murder.

Mark Heywood, prosecuting, said: "Garry Frater was run down in the road.

"They escalated their vehicle backwards, knocking him to the ground. The car was driven over him still in reverse, then forward over him before the pair drove off."

He added: "That car was used as a weapon. It proved effectively lethal."

Mr Heywood said Mr Frater, his best friend and two female friends left the club in the High Road at 3am.

They went to a local kebab house where they were approached by Lee, but "nothing untoward" had occurred.

They had got into the cab but did not realise they had been followed until they arrived, said Mr Heywood.

"There was a brief exchange. Mr Frater went to speak to the two defendants," said Mr Heywood.

The car drove off but stopped in De Havilland Road nearby where Mr Frater was attacked, he said.
