The investigation into the death and finances of oil executive Carole Waugh notched up its 11th arrest yesterday.

A 61-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud as police spent a second day questioning a man arrested on suspicion of murdering Ms Waugh. The investigation has intensified in the last week since Ms Waugh's body was found inside a car hidden in a lock-up garage, three months after she was reported missing by her family.

A post-mortem examination revealed she had been stabbed but it is yet to be confirmed if this was the cause of death. Her body was found on 2 August in New Malden, south-west London and police have been viewing CCTV footage in an attempt to identify who put her body there.

During the time Ms Waugh was missing at least £280,000 is thought to have been taken from her accounts, and there were repeated attempts to sell her £650,000 London home. At least three women are thought to have posed as her.

Detectives said they were investigating the possibility that she might have been an escort.

On Thursday police re-arrested unemployed Rakesh Bhayani on suspicion of Ms Waugh's murder and were still questioning him yesterday. He already faces charges of conspiracy to commit fraud relating to transactions worth £280,000 from Ms Waugh's bank accounts.

Nicholas David Kutner, 47, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of murder and kidnap last week. He already faces charges in relation to Ms Waugh, including pretending to be her brother in a bid to sell her home and unlawfully withdrawing funds from her bank account.
