A man has been arrested after independence referendum ballot papers were apparently posted for sale online.

An investigation was launched earlier this week after a number of people apparently attempted to sell their votes for the referendum 18 September on internet auction site eBay.

One listing offered buyers the chance to own a ‘unique piece of Scottish history’. eBay has since removed the listings from the site.

Police Scotland said a 28-year-old man was arrested in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow today in connection with an alleged breach of election law.

He has been reported to the procurator fiscal over an alleged contravention of Schedule 7 of the Scottish Independence Referendum Act 2013.

An eBay spokesman said at the time: "The Electoral Commission has an agreement in place where we remove upon request any items posted on eBay that relate to an individual's vote where the commission has concerns that this could lead to the law being broken."
