Veteran broadcaster Stuart Hall has been arrested and charged with rape and 14 counts of indecent assault that took place more than 30 years ago.

The 83-year-old, who is best known for presenting It’s a Knockout, was detained yesterday morning.

The indecent assault offences are alleged to have been committed between 1967 and 1986 and to involve 10 girls aged between nine and 16 years old.

The rape is alleged to have been committed in 1976 against a 22-year-old woman.

Mr Hall has been a sports broadcaster for five decades; most of that time he has spent with the BBC. He was awarded an OBE last year for services to broadcasting and charity.
