A teenager is in a critical condition after a brutal knife attack in north London.

The unidentified male, believed to be 18 years old, was attacked by a large group of men while with a friend at around 6.50pm last night in Hall Street, Islington.

The pair intially fled from the group, running down Hermit Street past City University's campus until the victim collapsed and his friend is believed to have called 999.

He was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service suffering head and stab injuries and his condition remains critical.

London Metropolitan Police officers are appealing for any witnesses or information about the incident and the area had been cordoned off last night as investigations continued, The Evening Standard reported.

Details surrounding the attack remain scarce, but the victim’s friend was not injured in the confrontation.

Islington police officers are carrying out increased patrols in the area and the Trident gang Crime Command has been informed, according to a Met Police statement.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
