A search was begun in the multi-occupancy property on Hallfield Road and a second body was then found.

The sex of the second body has not yet been established as it is understood the remains are still being examined by forensic experts.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 8:53pm last night to reports of a sudden death at a flat in Hallfield Road in Bradford where the body of a man was recovered.

"Officers searched the property and found a further body inside.

"This investigation is currently at an early stage and Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"The incident is being treated as suspicious."

Today scenes of crime officers and police continued a detailed examination of the converted house, which is about a mile from Bradford city centre.

The bodies are thought to have been found in an upper floor flat in the terraced property.

Residents in the area, which is mainly residential but has a number of fast food outlets and taxi offices, spoke of their shock at the discovery.

Hannan Miah, 25, who owned one of the adjoining properties, said the house where the bodies were discovered had been divided up into about 12 bedsits with shared kitchens and bathrooms.

He said: "There was a lot of coming and going.

"There was about 12 people who lived in the flats.

"We never got to really know them as they were always changing.

"There were a lot of Eastern European living there.

"I believe the people involved were Eastern European, possibly Russian.

"About two weeks ago I heard some knocking but I didn't think anything more of it."
