A graduate who appeared on University Challenge has been charged with four sexual offences including rape.

Bartholomew Joly de Lotbiniere, a University of York graduate, is due to stand trial in February next year.

He has been accused of a string of sexual offences against one alleged victim including rape, two sexual assaults and an attempted sexual assault.

Lotbiniere appeared at York Crown Court on Thursday and has denied the charges.

The student, who now lives in North West London, experienced a spell in the limelight following his appearance on the show because of his triple-barrelled surname.

The 21-year-old’s team reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by Peterhouse College, Cambridge.
