Acivil servant was jailed for two years for the manslaughter of a man he headbutted outside a pub.
Winchester Crown Court was told that Simon Dash, 28, attacked Christopher Ashton, 25, outside The Croft pub in Hythe after an incident in which his friend was cut with a broken glass. Mr Ashton, who was unconnected with the earlier incident, died in hospital 10 days later. He had been joking with friends and Dash, who had drunk eight pints of lager, mistakenly believed he was laughing at him. The judge said he accepted that Dash's behaviour 'was quite out of character'.
