A 66-year-old Anglesey man died in a 'freak accident' after pieces of a broken wine glass he was throwing away ripped through the bin bag he was carrying and severed an artery in his thigh.

According to the BBC the coroner said it was believed John Fozard was emptying the bin when the broken glass tore through the thin material of the bin bag and cut him.

It is believed that Mr Fozard, who the inquest heard was a retired photographer and bus and train enthusiast, attempted to stem the flow of blood before collapsing in his bathroom.

The inquest was told the glass had left a four-centimetre wound on his thigh just above the knee.

The glass had severed his femoral artery the Llangefni inquest heard. Coroner Dewi Pritchard-Jones declared that Mr Fozard's death was accidental.

Dr Mark Lord, a pathologist who gave evidence at the inquest, said emergency services may have been able to identify a pressure point had Mr Fozard been able to call them. He added that the speed of the bleeding may not have given him enough time for Mr Fozard to reach the phone.
