Bidders for Olympic Park site named

The three bidders competing to build the first neighbourhood at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the site of the London 2012 Games, were named today.

East Thames and Countryside Properties, Barratt Homes and LeFrak Organisation plus Taylor Wimpey and London & Quadrant have been shortlisted from six would-be developers to build Chobham Manor, the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) announced.

Chobham Manor, which will sit between the Athletes' Village and the VeloPark in Stratford, east London, will include a mix of terraced and mews housing plus duplex apartments within tree-lined avenues and open squares.

Up to 70% of the 800 homes will be for family housing and 40% of the new homes will be houses with gardens.

Talks will now be held with the three bidders who will have to fine-tune their proposals before they are submitted in June.

The OPLC aims to make an appointment this summer so that the first homes can be ready in 2014.

OPLC chief executive Andrew Altman said: "The three shortlisted parties are all capable of delivering to the highest standards and creating a thriving family community. They reflect the strong market appetite to develop family housing in the area.

"Legacy plans are more advanced than any previous Olympic host city and we aim to continue this by appointing a preferred bidder before the 2012 Games."

Chobham Manor is one of five neighbourhoods to be developed on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The new community will be within walking distance of Stratford International Station and Stratford Regional Station. There will also be a walk-in health centre, two nurseries, two multi-purpose community spaces, neighbourhood shops and the Chobham Academy school.
