Central line delays: Female passenger hit by Tube at Liverpool Street station

Serious delays on one of the London underground's busiest lines have continued after an individual stepped in front of a Tube train.

An engineering train came off the tracks last night around Holland Park, causing long delays on the central line as Transport for London accident investigation crews examined the scene.

The central line was suspended between White City and Marble Arch, with severe delays to the rest of the line for much of the day.

Commuter delays were only added to after a fire alert closed Bond Street station and overcrowding also closed Wanstead and South Woodford stations.

At around 1pm an unidentified woman stepped in front of a Tube service at Liverpool Street station.

A British Transport Police spokesperson told The Independent: “Our officers attended along with colleagues from the London Ambulance Service but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

They confirmed that the incident was not being treated as suspicious and stressed that there was no indication that the incident was linked “in any way” to the overcrowding experienced on the line earlier today.

A TfL spokesperson confirmed: “There are currently severe delays on the Central line due to an earlier customer incident.”
