A huge live nativity scene and a daily dose of chocolate will be drawing crowds to the annual Beach Hut Advent Calendar celebrations in Brighton & Hove.

As in previous years, the calendar organised by the Beyond Church group launches on 1 December, this year with a display by St Christopher's School Hove who will also bring their choir and the stars of their nativity play. Later in the month, the hut opening for December 12 will combine with the launch of child charity Make My Mark. And on Christmas Eve, everyone is invited to come dressed as their favourite character from the nativity story to help create an enormous live nativity scene throughout the evening.

Brighton chocolate specialists Choccywoccydoodah will be ensuring that those who like some chocolate with their advent calendars are not disappointed. They will be opening hut 79a on December 5 with a specially created Madonna and Child cake which is also the main prize to whoever attends the most beach hut openings throughout the month. Organisers of the calendar are planning to issue up to 10,000 'loyalty cards' which can be date stamped when people arrive and entered into a draw on Christmas Eve so that the winner will get to take the cake home with them for Christmas. They will also be giving out chocolate along with the mince pies and mulled wine every night.
