A former child model and his friend have been jailed for life for killing a doctor during a robbery within sight of Buckingham Palace.

Nadim Gulamhuseinwala, 32, was attacked in the early hours of 25 July last year as he walked home through Green Park. Thomas Connor and William Paton, both 20 and from Orpington, Kent, were found guilty at the Old Bailey of murder and robbery last week.

Connor, who used to be the face of Angel Delight dessert, was told he must serve at least 25 years. He struck the doctor on the head with a 10kg cast iron fence pole and stamped on his face.

Paton, who searched through the doctor's pockets and stole money, was given a minimum term of 23 years. Both were given concurrent terms of 10 years' detention for robbery.

Dr Gulamhuseinwala trained as a surgeon before joining the City management consultants McKinsey in 2007.

Judge Stephen Kramer said Connor had picked up the "fearsomely heavy" pole after spotting a man who had been drinking. He added: "You attacked him by throwing it at his head and felled him to the ground."
